GBS Malta celebrates first graduation ceremony 2025 with milestones and excellence

GBS Malta celebrated its first graduation ceremony, recognising graduates and the beginning of their professional journeys. This achievement exemplifies the institution’s continued commitment to nurturing talent and empowering future leaders.

On 18th November 2025, history was made at the Westin Dragonara Resort. GBS Malta hosted its inaugural graduation ceremony, celebrating students who are ready to make their mark on Malta and beyond. With Prime Minister Robert Abela in attendance and families filling the Dragonara Point Ballroom with pride, the event was more than a ceremony. It was a declaration that the standard of quality education in Malta has reached new heights. Here's how the day unfolded and what it means for Malta's future.

Numerous graduates, countless stories...

The grand event began with Zoran Janus, taking to the stage to address the distinguished guests, including Prime Minister Robert Abela, esteemed judges, proud families and of course, the stars of the evening: the graduating students themselves.

The atmosphere in the ballroom captured something special. Yes, there were traditional elements – the formal procession, the speeches, the conferring of degrees – but what stood out was the warmth. This was not a stuffy academic affair; it was a celebration filled with genuine emotion, proud families and a sense of community.

Allen Lofaro, director of operations (Europe), perfectly captured the spirit of the day when he addressed the graduates and guests. "I'm filled with pride to see students graduating today, knowing that they will go on to have an impact both here in Malta and around the world," he said, his words reflecting both the achievement of the moment and the promise of what lies ahead.

Many students crossed the stage that evening, each carrying their own story of dedication and growth. The largest cohort came from the MBA in Project Management pathway, an APM-accredited programme that has quickly become a magnet for working professionals in Malta. These were not just students collecting degrees; they were professionals who had balanced careers, personal commitments and academic rigour to reach this moment.

Malta’s PM celebrates the country’s education evolution

The significance of the occasion was underscored by the presence of Malta's Prime Minister, Robert Abela. He celebrated not just the graduates, but what their achievement represents for the nation as a whole.

"It reflects Malta's evolution into a dynamic hub for high-quality education and high-quality career pathways," Prime Minister Abela noted. "In a world shaped by rapid change, these skills place students at the forefront of opportunity."

His words highlighted something increasingly evident about Malta's trajectory: the island is no longer just a beautiful destination; it is becoming a recognised centre for academic excellence. The Prime Minister also acknowledged GBS Malta's commitment beyond the classroom, praising the institution's support for local education initiatives.

He said “GBS Malta’s support for local initiatives in education, employability and social development shows a genuine commitment to our community.”

More than degrees: Building career-ready professionals

What sets GBS Malta apart is not just what happens in the classroom; it is the institution's focus on preparing graduates for real-world impact. The curriculum has been deliberately designed to meet industry needs. It places a strong emphasis on high-technology and high-growth sectors that shape Malta's knowledge economy

"The island’s knowledge economy is thriving and we at GBS Malta will continue to play our role in strengthening it. We have designed our curriculum to meet industry’s needs, particularly in high-tech and high-growth sectors," Lofaro shared during the ceremony.

This practical approach resonates well with students who are not solely interested in theory. They want skills they can apply immediately, credentials that employers recognise and networks that open doors. The MBA in Project Management, accredited by the Association for Project Management (APM), exemplifies this philosophy perfectly, bridging academic rigour with professional application.

Malta: An education hub on the rise

The ceremony itself told a story beyond GBS Malta's walls.  It was a day of learning and networking where international guests mingled with local families, academic leaders shared insights with industry partners and each conversation seemed to circle back to the same theme: Malta is emerging as a compelling destination for both ambitious students and respected institutions alike.

"Malta is increasingly able to attract and retain talented young people – they see a positive and long-term future in the country," Lofaro observed. "This is helping to make Malta a hub for education, attracting ambitious students and institutions from around the world."

For students considering where to invest in their future, Malta presents a compelling case.  The island offers a unique combination of high quality of life, strategic location, economic growth, and, increasingly, educational opportunities of the highest level.

Global connections, local impact

As part of the Global Education (GEDU) Network, which supports over 80,000 learners worldwide, GBS Malta brings international standards and global connections to the Maltese education landscape. The strength of this partnership lies in its localisation, not as a foreign institution operating in Malta, but as an integral part of the island's educational infrastructure.

The institution's commitment to Malta is evident in its approach: new initiatives are being developed, collaborations are being formed and advanced learning spaces are being created – all with one clear goal in mind. GBS Malta wants to make quality higher education  accessible and practical for Malta's evolving workforce.

"Today's graduating cohort is the first of many and I cannot wait to see what the future will bring," Lofaro said, his words containing both a promise and an invitation.

The beginning of something bigger

As the ceremony drew to a close and the last photographs were taken, one truth became undeniable: this was not an ending. The first graduation at GBS Malta represents the beginning of  a lasting contribution to Malta's educational sector. These graduates are pioneers. Their success validates not just their own hard work, but the vision that brought GBS Malta to life.

The day was a realisation of a shared vision, one that began with ambition, perseverance and the belief that quality education can shape futures.
